It is the first to take reserve (all fishing is prohibited) in the wider Caribbean. This stretch of pristine water, land and beaches is an ecological preserve and wildlife refuge famous for its breathtaking marine environment.
Coco Plum Beach is one of the many unbelievably gorgeous beaches on and around Great Exuma. It is on the northern end of the island and you will need a car to get here. You turn off of the Queen’s Highway and proceed back on a bumpy road to a very remote beach. Bring drinks, food, and snorkel gear. There is a sandbar that extends out, at least, 300 yards from shore
The Tropic of Cancer Beach, also known as Pelican Beach, is the strip of sand that draws most travelers to the Exumas. The imaginary Tropic of Cancer meridian runs along a set of stairs leading down to the beach’s powdery sands. Because the beach is notoriously difficult to find, it remains quiet and tranquil despite its beauty. Bring a picnic and snorkeling gear and enjoy an afternoon of leisurely lounging on the sands
The quiet little village of Rolle Town is one of the five Lord John Rolle Commonage Estates on Exuma. The Commonage Estates are lands that have been passed down to the slaves and cannot be sold. The town's residents are all descendants of Rolle's former slaves, and grow fruits and vegetables just as their ancestors have done since the 1800's. Relatives of U.S. actress, the late Esther Rolle, live here.
The plantation itself, in the past, was originally there to produce cotton. The cotton plantation now lies in ruins. The remains of the plantation remain standing and visitors and locals visit the plantation to see the structure and architecture of the house. The kitchen and space quarters of the house remain standing
